Plan für CO2 Reduktion
RideTandem is committed to measuring, reducing, and reporting our carbon emissions in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard. This page is our publicly accessible Carbon Reduction Plan, maintained in compliance with PPN 006/21.
Our corporate carbon footprint covers our own operations as a company — the energy our people use working from home, travel to meetings and team events, our office, and the software infrastructure we rely on. It does not include the emissions of the transport services we operate on behalf of clients; those are reported separately under our service carbon methodology, available on request.
Our emissions baseline
Restated baseline: 2023
In 2025 we restated our GHG baseline from 2021–22 to 2023. Our original baseline was calculated by ClimatePartner for the period April 2021 to March 2022, when the majority of our team was working from home full-time during the covid hybrid period. That figure (121.65 tCO₂e) was dominated by home office energy under full household attribution, and is not directly comparable to subsequent years following our transition to remote-first operations with a smaller shared office.
Our restated 2023 baseline (48.0 tCO₂e) reflects our actual operating model and provides a consistent foundation for tracking progress. The 2021–22 ClimatePartner figure is retained below for historical transparency.
Emissions data
Historical emissions
| Year | Total tCO₂e | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 2021–22 | 121.65 | Calculated by ClimatePartner. Covers April 2021–March 2022. Elevated home office figure reflects full household energy attribution during peak covid hybrid working. Retained for historical reference only. |
| 2023 | 48.0 | Self-calculated using GHG Protocol methodology and DEFRA/ecoinvent conversion factors. Restated baseline year. |
| 2025 | 41.3 | Self-calculated using DESNZ 2024 conversion factors and GHG Protocol methodology. See breakdown below. |
2025 emissions breakdown
| Scope / Category | tCO₂e | % of total |
|---|---|---|
| Scope 1 — direct emissions | 0.00 | 0% |
| Scope 2 — purchased energy (market-based) | 0.00 | 0% |
| Scope 3 — home office energy | 29.04 | 70% |
| Scope 3 — business travel | 6.64 | 16% |
| Scope 3 — SaaS and cloud infrastructure | 5.08 | 12% |
| Scope 3 — employee commuting | 0.45 | 1% |
| Scope 3 — waste | <0.05 | <1% |
| Total | 41.3 | 100% |
Scope 1 is zero. RideTandem has no company-owned vehicles or equipment generating direct emissions.
Scope 2 is zero under the market-based method. Our office operates on a 100% renewable electricity tariff. Under the location-based method, Scope 2 is approximately 3.1 tCO₂e, reflecting the average UK grid mix.
Scope 3 accounts for all our emissions. Home office energy is the largest single source, reflecting our remote-first model across a team of 45. Business travel includes three all-company team days in 2025, with UK rail travel for the majority of attendees and short-haul flights for our Germany-based team members.
Progress against targets
Reduction targets
| Target | Baseline | Goal | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 40% reduction by 2030 | 48.0 tCO₂e (2023) | 28.8 tCO₂e | On track — 14.1% reduction achieved to 2025 |
| Net zero by 2035 | 48.0 tCO₂e (2023) | 0 tCO₂e | In progress |
Against our restated 2023 baseline of 48.0 tCO₂e, our 2025 figure of 41.3 tCO₂e represents a 14.1% reduction, achieved primarily through downsizing to a smaller office (reducing Scope 2) and completing fewer team days than in prior years.
Our largest remaining source is home office energy (70% of total), which scales with headcount. As the team grows, we expect this figure to rise in absolute terms. Our focus is therefore on emissions intensity — reductions per person — rather than absolute totals alone.
Reduction initiatives
What we are doing to reduce emissions
Remote-first operations
Since 2020 we have operated as a remote-first company. This eliminates commuting for the majority of our team and has removed the need for a large office, significantly reducing our Scope 2 footprint compared to our pre-covid baseline.
Smaller, greener office
We have moved to a smaller office in London operating on 100% renewable electricity, reducing our Scope 2 emissions to zero on a market-based basis.
Virtual-first meetings
We default to virtual meetings for day-to-day working. In-person team events are consolidated into a small number of planned all-company days per year, reducing ad hoc business travel.
Rail over flights for UK travel
For domestic travel, our default is rail where journey times are practical. Flights are used where rail is not a viable option, including colleagues based in Scotland, remote islands, and Germany travelling to UK team events.
EV transition for client services
We are actively working with our operator partners to support the transition to electric vehicles on the services we run for clients. Our commitment is to utilise EVs wherever available, and continue to support our operator partners in purchasing electric vehicles to support their existing fleet or replace existing vehicles, in order to help them to make this important transition to a more sustainable transport system.
Methodology note
Emissions are calculated in accordance with the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard. Conversion factors are sourced from the UK Government's Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) 2024 guidance, supplemented by DEFRA and ecoinvent factors where DESNZ factors are not available for a specific category.
The market-based method is used as our primary Scope 2 figure, in line with GHG Protocol recommendations. The location-based equivalent is disclosed separately above.
Scope 3 home office emissions are calculated using a per-person rate derived from our 2023 full-year calculation, scaled to current headcount and working patterns. Business travel is calculated using a combination of activity-based data (known journeys) and spend-based estimates (DESNZ spend-based factors for software and accommodation).
This report covers RideTandem's own operations as a company (CollectiveTech Limited, trading as RideTandem). Emissions from the transport services operated on behalf of clients are excluded under the disclosed agency principle (GHG Protocol Scope 3, Category 9) and reported separately in our service carbon methodology document.

Note on Category 9 – Downstream Transportation and Distribution
This is understandably the most significant point of interest given the nature of our work.
At present, RideTandem contracts as a disclosed agent, acting on behalf of our customers to source and manage transport services delivered by trusted third-party operators. The core vehicle operation is delivered by those operators, RideTandem adds value through our technology platform, passenger booking and tracking tools, real-time service monitoring, customer service, operator performance management, consolidated reporting and more.
This managed layer is the core service that we sell — designed to improve access to employment and education through sustainable shared transport. However, we do not own, operate, or directly contract the transport services. We are the customer's agent but the contract for transport services is between them and the transport operator directly. As such, our understanding is that under our current contractual structures:
- Emissions from vehicle operations are accounted for by the operator (Scope 1) and the customer (Scope 3),
- They are not included in RideTandem's Scope 3, Category 9 boundary, in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol's treatment of "use of sold services" and disclosed agency relationships.
Our Operator Partners
At RideTandem, we are committed to leading the way in sustainable employee and education shuttle services.
Our vision is to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2035, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future. We are committed to supporting our operator partners to enable our customers' own transition to net zero.
1. Carbon Neutral Options
We are proud to offer all our clients the opportunity to make their shuttle services carbon neutral through Gold Standard or VCS accredited offsets. This option allows organisations to offset the carbon emissions associated with their journeys, meaning carbon neutral is an option already in 2025.
2. Transition to Electric Vehicles
In order to reach net-zero, we recognise the importance of reducing emissions at the source, and are actively working with partners including zenobe.com to support our operators in transitioning to electric fleets by minimising upfront costs. While EVs are currently in short supply and come at a premium, we further enable our operators to make this transition by helping them to secure long-term contracts and providing support to facilitate investment in EVs.
By 2035, we aim to have 100% of our journeys operated using electric vehicles, with the following milestones:
- 2025–26: Pilot our first EV services, where available and financially viable
- 2027: Achieve 10% of fleet transitioning to EVs
- 2028: Achieve 20% of fleet transitioning to EVs
- 2030: Achieve 50% of fleet transitioning to EVs
- 2035: Achieve 100% EV fleet
Our commitment is to utilise EVs wherever available and financially viable for our customers, and continue to support our operator partners in purchasing electric vehicles to support their existing fleet or replace existing vehicles, in order to help them to make this important transition to a more sustainable transport system.
3. Long-Term Contracts for Sustainability
RideTandem is committed to supporting our operators by helping to secure long-term contracts. These agreements provide financial stability for our operators and enable them to plan and invest in electric vehicles, contributing to the overall sustainability of their fleets and helping us to reach our goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2035. By fostering these partnerships, we empower our operators to make the necessary investments in EVs over time, ultimately contributing to cleaner and more sustainable transport ecosystems.
4. Transparent Measurement and Reporting
RideTandem is committed to transparency in our carbon reduction efforts. We understand the importance of accurate measurement to track progress and make informed decisions. To this end, we implement comprehensive tracking systems through our driver app and detailed vehicle occupancy reports to measure and report CO2 emissions associated with our employee shuttle services.
4.1 Driver App Tracking
Our advanced driver app enables real-time monitoring of routes. By leveraging this technology, we gain valuable insights into individual journeys, allowing us to identify areas for improvement and optimise routes for greater fuel efficiency.
4.2 Vehicle Occupancy Reports
Detailed vehicle occupancy reports provide us with a holistic view of resource utilisation. By analysing data on passenger numbers per journey, we can optimise vehicle capacity, reduce the number of underutilised trips, iterate the routes taken, and, consequently, lower overall carbon emissions.
4.3 Commitment to Accuracy
We are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of accuracy in our emission measurements. Regular assessments ensure that our tracking systems align with industry best practices, providing our clients and stakeholders with reliable data on the environmental impact of their employee shuttle services.
5. Stakeholder Engagement
RideTandem encourages open dialogue with clients, operators, and other stakeholders regarding our carbon reduction initiatives. By fostering communication, we aim to share insights, address concerns, and collaboratively work towards achieving our collective sustainability goals.
As we move forward, we remain steadfast in our commitment to not only reduce carbon emissions but also to accurately measure and report our progress. By embracing transparency and engaging with stakeholders, RideTandem aims to set a benchmark for environmentally responsible employee shuttle services.
6. Continuous Improvement
We recognise that achieving our net-zero goal requires continuous effort and innovation. As technology evolves and more sustainable options become available, we will stay at the forefront, exploring and implementing new solutions to further reduce our environmental impact.
By aligning our efforts with our operators, clients, and partners, RideTandem is dedicated to making a meaningful contribution to carbon reduction. Together, we are driving positive change in the employee shuttle services industry, creating a more sustainable and eco-friendly transportation solution for businesses across the UK and Germany.
